Narayan Sengupta :: A Brief Profile...

I'm 37, married to my wonderful wife Janel, with one daughter and another one on the way. I live in Atlanta, Georgia in the USA. More specifically I live in a suburb of Atlanta named Smyrna, Georgia, which is famous for only one thing: the wonderful actress Julia Roberts. I have an IT company. We develop all kinds of software, including database applications, web sites, and now wireless web sites.

I do play soccer and raquetball, though my favorite sports to watch are soccer and ice hockey. My hobbies are mainly centered around art, photography, writing, history, political science, languages, military simulations and travel. Software development is another hobby, but that doesn't count since I also do it for a living.

I do love languages. I speak English (bien sur), French (of course), and Bengali fluently thanks to my parents, especially my father who insisted that I learn them. This has been one of the great boons in my life. I have also, along the way, learned or studied Spanish, Italian, Hindi, Urdu, German, Arabic, Russian, Japanese, Marathi, Portuguese and Latin. However, I have forgotten just about everything after Urdu. Nonetheless, it has made meeting people around the world, and understanding how people and cultures interact with one another (or why they sometimes don't) much easier and much more interesting.

I try to travel as often as possible, and get out of the country once or twice a year, three times if I'm lucky to have that much time. I travel mostly to France with my wife. But in all, I have visited or stopped in countries such as Canada, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, India, Norway, Denmark, Holland, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy, Spain, England, Hong Kong, Austria, Belgium, Taiwan, Japan, and even stopped in UAE, Bahrain, Iceland and Israel and Greece at one point or other. Of course, the greatest place to visit in many ways is right here in the U.S. As part of that, I've tried to visit many of our National Parks and many of our great states. I have to say that if you haven't been to Yellowstone National Park, then you have something great to look forward to!
