This beautiful port town is in Brittany, near Mt. St. Michel, and should be combined in a day trip there. Its famous explorers ventured forth to the Falkland Islands (still Las Malavinas after St. Malo to the Argentinians) and up and down the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Mississippi River.

St. Malo was/is a protected harbor town. The older defenses were strengthened by the Germans during WWII as part of their Atlantic Wall.

Even now it's fun to walk around the rocky crags and on and off the ramparts before heading off to a cafe.
